Preceding, Equivalent and Superseding Parts
This Windward Webinar explains "Superseding Parts" feature in Windward System Five, which provides users with the ability to see related parts that are considered to be preceding, equivalent, or superseding parts of a selected part. The feature is an option of inventory control and integrates with inventory, invoicing, and purchasing modules.
- The session was moderated by Jennifer, and the main presenter was Abby.
- Abby explained the "Superseding Parts" feature's functions. It can be used to provide a list of possible substitutions for any given part and help clerks quickly locate and sell equivalent parts when the original part is not in stock.
- Abby presented three rules for superseding parts: Wavelength, New Supersede, and Superseded by. These rules dictate how parts are classified and sold.
- The checkbox settings for "Can sell" and "Can order" were explained. These controls whether the part can be sold at the point of sale or placed on a purchase order respectively.
- Abby demonstrated how to enable the "Superseding Parts" feature in the setup wizard and how to use it for inventory management.
- Abby showed how to use each rule in real-life scenarios, providing examples of how to manage inventory from different suppliers and how to prioritize the sale of older inventory.
- The webinar also covered resources available for further assistance, including the webinar archives, Help Center, Knowledge Base, and emergency support.
- There were no questions during the Q&A portion of the webinar. Jennifer reminded attendees they could e-mail support for additional help.
- The next webinar will be on October 20th and will discuss contract pricing and price schedule exemption.

1:11
Our presenter today is Abby, and we're going to be discussing preceding equivalent and superseding parts. So without further ado, let's get started.
1:23
Thank you, Jennifer. Hello everyone. Good afternoon, and welcome to my presentation.
1:28
As you can see on the screen, we will be talking about proceeding, Equivalent, and Superseding Parts, or Superseding Parts feature.
1:45
Superseding Pardes feature provides you with the ability to see related parts that are considered to be preceding, equivalent, or superseding parts of the selected part.
1:58
This feature Functions as an option of inventory control and works with all existing inventory control features, including serial numbers and the virtual warehouse inventory database.
2:11
This feature integrates with inventory, invoicing, and purchasing modules.
2:19
This could also be used to provide a list of possible substitutions for any given part.
2:26
Now, in this manner, this feature could help your clerks quickly and easily locate and sell these equivalent parts in the event that the repressive part is not stopped.
2:40
Now, we have two objectives.
2:44
First, is to discuss how superseding parts feature provides you with the ability to see related parts.
2:51
They are considered to be free city equivalent or superseding parts of a park, and do discuss how this feature could be used to provide a list of possible substitutions, for any given part.
3:06
So there are three rules for superseding.
3:10
Burst is the wavelength.
3:13
That means the great art, and the surprising part are interchangeable, both should be set to can sell.
3:22
The can order flag could be used to prevent the ordering of one or the other.
3:28
This is a possible method of changing your supplier of a common item.
3:35
So the item from the old supplier could be flagged as can order, know, and can sell. Yes, and the item from the new supplier as, can order, Yes, and can sell. Yes.
3:50
Next is the new suppers Sheets.
3:53
That means, the current pardes supersedes the part being added.
3:58
The added part will be marked as being superseded by the current part.
4:05
This method could be used to force the old suppliers item to be solved before the new suppliers items, by setting can sell to no on the on the new suppliers item, and setting the old suppliers item to supersede the new part.
4:22
And the drawback being, when the all suppliers item is out of stock, you cannot sell than your suppliers item and tail.
4:32
the carousel flat, then he suppliers' item is checked.
4:39
There it is superseded by.
4:43
That means, the current part is superseded by the part being added.
4:48
The added part will be marked as superseding, the current part.
4:53
Also, they can sell, and can order flags, can be used to prevent the sale or ordering of each part as reports. So, this is just the reverse of the use of receipts rule.
5:06
So, before we proceed to our live demonstration, let's just, know, first the function and purpose of, that can sell and can order checkboxes.
5:17
The Cancel checkbox controls whether the part can be sold at the point of sale.
5:23
If the checkbox is checked, then the part can be sold, if not, then the part is not available at the point of sale.
5:30
Can order checkbox controls whether the parts can be placed on a purchase order, refreshes order, and if the checkbox is checked, then the part can be placed on a purchase order. If not, then the part going to be placed on a purchase order.
5:46
And take note that the checkbox settings relate to the current part only.
5:52
You must set the cancel and can Order lags for each inventory part individually, OK? Now, we will proceed to our demonstration. So, let me pull up my demo here.
6:09
OK, first of all, we need to enable the Superseding parts feature in the setup wizard to be able to use it.
6:17
So, let's go to the menu, Setup Chills, then, Setup Wizard.
6:26
That would be Andry Inventory.
6:32
K Option and then, Options one, then, check the checkbox, Use superseding Parts.
6:39
So, I already checked that up and we have three search options.
6:44
First option, Collecting.
6:50
Selecting an item will display any image, it's representing price link to that item under the same sub category only.
6:59
The second option will display all related parts from different subcategories that can be purchased or sold.
7:10
A third option will display all related parts, regardless, all related parts from the different categories, regardless of whether or not they can be purchased or so. So this search option, options, art.
7:24
I'm referring to the find window on the invoice, and art by the or the purchase order.
7:32
OK, so for this demonstration, I'm going to use the second option.
7:37
So just close this window to save the changes, or to say, the settings.
7:43
So I'm gonna minimize this one. It will take a few seconds to close.
7:50
Now, we will use that feature.
7:53
So I have already created the items from my end use suppliers.
8:08
OK, let's say OK, here between 800 A and a great hundred C, are from my old supplier.
8:18
The 2800 B, and a 2000 D items are from the minute supplier.
8:24
So, at 2800 B, let us say that 2800 B is the equivalent part of my 2880.
8:35
Set the set at 2000 B as the equivalent of the 2800 A.
8:42
So you just need to add it or we just need to add it either of the two.
8:47
So that's added.
8:48
First one are my item or my ultra vires item.
9:03
Then from here, just go to the Superseding Parts.
9:09
Click on the Add button, and then Select equivalence.
9:18
Hey, if at all, and then I'm going to I D 1, 800 B, which is Remind use, which is my new suppliers item, That's it.
9:31
Enter, OK, Enter, so here it is, and as further equivalent rule, both should be set to and sell.
9:43
And if you want to get to prevent the ordering of the old supplier's item, just set the order to know on that item.
9:51
So cancels all the reset?
9:54
Are my old suppliers item as well as my new suppliers item C Or H showing ....
10:01
Yes and if I want to prevent the ordering by ultra vires item J I can just Or I would just uncheck the box OK.
10:13
And if you edit or if you open this item from here, this mule or 2800 feet?
10:25
Can't just wait.
10:37
And HE go to the Superseding parts.
10:40
So, it will show, I'll show that. It is equivalent to the part 2880.
10:48
Step here.
10:51
Now, let's try to create a.
10:57
Go switch the site. Try now the equivalent icon.
11:01
So, if I will grade an invoice.
11:09
OK, I'm just going to use a worker registered.
11:15
Make it faster.
11:28
Boom.
11:30
All right.
11:31
So let's say, let's add planet a Brit, A, which is my own suppliers, either.
11:40
And if I'd like or hit enter, So the system is displaying that Good village parts of my old supplier item, which is 2808, So in case your suppliers or you're all suppliers item, is out of stock.
11:58
So the system, or the bureau clerk, will be able to sell the alternative item of the 2808.
12:10
So, if I'm going to place an order for my new suppliers item?
12:21
20, Sorry, Fall months.
12:37
Me.
12:43
New suppliers, item.
12:51
OK, so, the system doesn't, or is not displaying my own suppliers item, because we set the cancel, flag to know on that item, and also I used the option, or the second option, which is to display already two parts to that, can be purchased or sold only.
13:12
So, that's it, that's receipts your next example, both that one out.
13:22
Here.
13:24
So, this is my all suppliers item, and my new suppliers item.
13:30
So, this will Will the Rayleigh replace the 2800 C, But I still have, or my old suppliers, I'm still have stocks.
13:44
And, if I want to sell them first, before my new suppliers item, I'm going to have to set, can sell Jim now on my new suppliers item, OK, so, let's do that.
14:04
And I'll sell, jet, buy all suppliers item to supersede my new suppliers item.
14:13
Again, as spray dicer proceeds rule OK, let me just add that one first, so Superseding parts, click on the Add button, and click News of receipt.
14:32
So that would be 2800 D.
14:42
OK, again, as per the super user browses rule, if you wanna sell first, the all suppliers item, we need to set and sell.
14:55
no on the new suppliers item.
14:58
So changing that one to a letter M Then if you open this one.
15:26
It reflects the checkbox of then you, So, first item for himself.
15:32
Hey, going back.
15:34
So we have done setting the all suppliers item to supersedes, then you suppliers item, and then we will proceed now in writing an invoice.
15:49
So now since I am selling first my all suppliers item, so I'm going to add the 2800 C.
16:05
OK, there you go.
16:06
So, it doesn't show the 2800 D, which is my new surprise item, because we sat they can sell, glad to know, So, so, when the time comes that you're all suppliers item is out of stock, you need 2 or 8.
16:27
It's out of south, and then you need to sell the new suppliers item.
16:31
You have to set the council flag on the new suppliers into yes, so that your clerks will be able to sell them after, after the also farzad it is out of stock.
16:46
OK, so here, and it, in case I'm Ghana, uncheck the box for my old supplier's item on the, an order lag.
17:13
Go to the superseding parts, So this is may also flyers items.
17:19
I'm going to uncheck that box, so, I don't want to.
17:25
Order it and more.
17:27
Then, if we purchase the new suppliers item.
17:54
OK, so let's say 20 D.
18:04
It doesn't display our or my all suppliers item, because we uncheck the box where they can order flag on that item.
18:14
OK, I guess, that would be all for today's webinar, if you have any questions or clarifications, just spread it down on the Question box.
